Mental Health in Enfield
Mental health services in Enfield are provided by the Barnet, Enfield & Haringey Mental Health Trust. The community mental health teams aim to provide support to the public for adults. They offer services for people with the full range of psychological problems: these include sleeping problems, depression, phobic anxiety, stress and general anxiety, sexual problems, bereavement problems, panic attacks, medically unexplained symptoms and many other psychological conditions. However, they also cater for individuals with more serious mental health problems. They also deal with issues relating to cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s and dementia.

However, if you ask for psychological support, this will need to go on your medical record and there are long waiting lists. The therapy that you receive will either be Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), counselling or group therapy; the other alternative is being referred to see a psychiatrist. In an emergency you can ring 020 8702 3800 and a trained social worker will talk to you about your problems. Alternatively, you can ring the Samaritans. However, it is important to note that all the workers on these lines are volunteers with little or no training in psychology.

The services that they offer are excellent and often the waiting list is very short, and you can see a therapist within the week. This compares favourably to the waiting list on the NHS.
